The prevailing theory on the causes of Alzheimer’s disease indicates that they are related to the abnormal accumulation of two proteins, amyloid-beta (Aβ) and tau, in neuronal tissues, but there are still many unknowns concerning the processes that trigger this neurodegenerative disease.
